Characteristic manifestations include:

  • subpleural dot-like opacities in early disease (peribronchiolar fibrosis)
  • intralobular linear opacities (reticulation)
  • subpleural lines
  • parenchymal bands
  • traction bronchiectasis
  • subpleural and lower lung zone predominance
  • parietal pleural thickening or plaques

Other findings:

  • honeycombing in advanced disease
  • traction bronchiolectasis
  • ground-glass opacity in nondependent lung (relatively uncommon)
