Bentall's procedure

Bentall procedure is performed for the repair of ascending aortic root lesions. Typically the native aortic root and aortic valve are replaced with a composite graft that comprises both ascending aortic and aortic valve grafts, to which the coronary arteries are anastomosed.

Complications post procedure

Recognized complications include

formation of dissecting aneurysm ⁸
mediastinal peri-aortic collections
- mediastinal hematoma
- infective collections
coronary arterial complications
- leakage at anastomosis of the coronary arteries
- pseudoaneurysm formation at anastomosis of the coronary arteries
- coronary ostial dissection
- coronary ostial stenosis
formation of a ventricular septal defect as part of aortic valve replacement
endocarditis at the level of the valve
mycotic pseudoaneurysms

History and etymology

It was originally introduced was by H Bentall and A De Bono in 1968 ⁴. Since then, there have been several modifications to the procedure.
