Extracranial meningiomas are meningiomas that extend or arise outside the dural covering of the brain.
Terminology
The term extracranial meningioma is confusing as it is variably used to refer to spinal meningiomas, intraosseous meningiomas (even though they are cranial), ectopic meningiomas, rare metastases from intracranial meningiomas and even run-of-the-mill meningiomas with direct extracranial extension. As such it is a term that should only be used with caution and requiring clarification.
