Flying focus tomosynthesis

Flying focus is a technology of image acquisition in digital breast tomosynthesis characterized by a continuous sweep during shooting.

Sharpness in digital systems is determined by the modulation transfer function (MTF), which determine contrast transfer as a function of spatial frequency.

Since a MTF strong value reduction occurs in the scan direction and on-plane sharpness is reduced as the distance of the object of interest from the detector increases, this suggests that detectability of small details in the reconstructed planes in flying focus systems varies with the details themselves position.
