Leaky lung syndrome

Leaky lung syndrome refers to a form of non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema.

Pulmonary edema due to increased capillary permeability.  

Leaky lung syndrome is considered a mild form of a part of the spectrum of acute lung injury with ARDS at the other end of the spectrum in terms of severity 1. Features are:

  • patchy peripheral infiltrates
  • air bronchograms
  • normal caliber of vessels
  • varying degree of pneumonitis
