Neonatal respiratory distress (causes)

Causes of neonatal distress can be broadly split into intrathoracic, extrathoracic and systemic:

  • sepsis
  • profound anemia
  • hypothermia
  • hypovolemic shock
  • electrolyte imbalance
  • adrenal insufficiency
  • severe acidosis
