Odontogenic sinusitis describes inflammation of the paranasal sinuses secondary to dental pathology (e.g. dental caries, periapical abscess) or secondary to dental procedures (e.g. extraction, implants).
Ondotongeic sinusitis accounts for 10% of causes of chronic sinusitis and almost exclusively involves the maxillary sinus. Isolated maxillary sinusitis should raise the possibility of an odontogenic cause.
