Parachordoma

Last revised by Jeremy Jones on 27 Feb 2018

Parachordomas are rare neuroepithelial tumours with glial differentiation that are histologically similar to chordomas but do not occur in the axial skeleton.

Pathology

They are generally slow growing and non-disseminating, and sometimes have a late local recurrence after resection.

Location

They usually occur in the deep soft tissues of the extremities or in the skin. Occasionally they may occur in the retroperitoneum.

Radiographic features

They have a nonspecific imaging appearance on  CT and MRI. Calcifications may be visualised in the masses at CT.
