Pedunculated hepatic hemangioma

Last revised by Henry Knipe on 16 Nov 2023

Pedunculated hepatic hemangiomas are a type of hepatic hemangioma and are rare benign tumors of the liver. They can create a diagnostic challenge when they are connected only by a thin stalk and can be mistaken for a malignant mass.

Clinical presentation

They can be asymptomatic or complicated by torsion, resulting in pain.

Radiographic features

CT/MRI

These tumors follow a typical enhancement pattern of hemangiomas with peripheral, nodular enhancement on early phases, which gradually fills in on portal venous and delayed phases. The thin stalk/pedicle is often undetectable on imaging.
