Phlegmonous enteritis

Phlegmonous enteritis is a rare, life threatening disorder characterized by bacterial infection of the submucosal and muscularis layers of the gastrointestinal tract. The stomach is the most commonly involved site, with more than 100 cases reported in the literature. The mortality rate due to phlegmonous enteritis is 42% 1.
