Primitive arteries in the brain (mnemonic)

The primitive arteries in the brain can be remembered by the following mnemonic:

  • HOT MAP

Mnemonic

The meningohypophyseal trunk and anterior choroidal and posterior inferior cerebellar arteries (M, A, P) are considered standard human anatomy. The hypoglossal, otic, and trigeminal arteries (H, O, T) only rarely persist beyond early development.
