Right posterior hepatic notch sign

Last revised by Yuranga Weerakkody on 12 Sep 2017

The right posterior hepatic notch sign is a sharp indentation of the normally smooth posterior right hepatic lobe margin. It is associated with cirrhosis, although the mechanism is not entirely clear. It has been suggested that this may be an indication of relative caudate lobe hypertrophy and decrease in size of the right hepatic lobe.
