Short ciliary nerves
Updates to Article Attributes
The short ciliary nerves are a group of nerves that branch offrom the nasociliary nerve in the intraconal space via the ciliary ganglion. Along with the long ciliary nerves, they supply sensation to the entire globe excluding the conjunctiva. The nasociliary nerve provides a small sensory component via a small communicating branch. Parasympathetic fibres from the ciliary ganglion (via the oculomotor nerve), sympathetic fibres from the adjacent ICA and somatosensory fibres form about 8-10 short ciliary nerves which enter the posterior globe to autonomically innervate the ciliary body and sphincter pupillae and supply sensation to the sclera, cornea, iris and ciliary body.
