Sperm cell granuloma

Last revised by Yuranga Weerakkody on 3 May 2023

Sperm cell granulomas, also called epididymitis nodosa, are benign lesions that can occur in the scrotum; particularly, in those with a prior vasectomy.

They occur after vasectomy in up to 40% of patients 2.

It is considered a form of chronic epididymitis which occurs secondary to inflammation, trauma, and/or a vasectomy. A granulomatous reaction forms secondary to extravasated sperm cells

It may appear as a well-circumscribed heterogeneous mass and is commonly found at the epididymis or the ends of the divided ductus deferens.
