Testicular fracture is a break in the parenchyma of the testis as a result of blunt trauma.

Radiographic features

Ultrasound

A fracture line can be seen as a hypoechoic and avascular area within the testis but is only seen in 17% of cases ¹.

Disruption of the tunica albuginea suggests testicular rupture, which requires surgical management.

Treatment and prognosis

The presence of blood flow demonstrates which region of the testis is still viable ². Sometimes debridement along the line of the fracture is all that is required, while the rest of the testis is spared ². Mild intratesticular fractures may be managed conservatively ³.
