Blood vessel derived tumours may arise from:
- endothelial cells
- cells supporting or surrounding blood vessels
Most arise in the soft tissues or viscera. Primary tumours of the large vessels (eg. aorta, IVC) are rare and are usually connective tissue sarcomas.
Vascular tumours may be benign or malignant. Benign tumours form recognisable vascular channels filled with blood or lymphatic fluid. Malignant tumours are usually more solid and cellular without well-formed vascular channels.
