Sebaceous cyst - knee

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Well-defined painless swelling on medial aspect of the knee for 6 months. Gradually increasing in size. Redness of overlying skin for last few weeks.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Radiopaque lesion at the medial aspect of the knee joint appears to be in the superficial tissues. No bony abnormality.

ultrasound

Lesion is in the subcutaneous plane. It is well-encapsulated lesion. No internal vascularity is seen. Echogenic strands were seen. However, no calcification present.  No intra-articular extension. No relation to medial collateral ligament.

Case Discussion

Intraoperatively, the lesion was subcutaneous and was completely resected. Operative diagnosis was a sebaceous cyst, which was confirmed on histopathology.
