How do you know the collapse is associated with consolidation?
Air bronchograms and limited loss of volume.
What tells you categorically that the medial part of the left lower lobe is not aerated?
There is loss of the outline of the descending aorta.
Descending aorta and diaphragmatic outlines are lost. Air bronchograms are present in the retrocardiac position. The ribs are somewhat crowded on the left. Features are consistent with left lower lobe collapse with some consolidation.
