In a patient presenting with a fractured calcaneus, what are the associated injuries which need to be ruled out?
Fractures of the contralateral foot 25%. Bilateral calcaneal fractures up to 10%. Burst fractures of thoracic and lumbar vertebrae in up to 10% due to axial load transmitted through the spine. Compartment syndrome – deep central most common.
Comminuted fracture of the calcaneus.
