Giant cell tumor of bone

Presentation

Left hip pain.

Patient Data

Age: 20
Gender: Male
x-ray

A left proximal femoral purely lytic, eccentric lesion with minimal expansion; difficult to know whether it arises from the epiphysis or metaphysis, but appears to cross the physis. 

Case Discussion

This patient demonstrates appearances of a giant cell tumor of bone (GCT). Classically, giant cell tumors arise from the epiphysis and do not cross the physis unless it is fused. 

This case was histologically proven.
