Esophageal atresia

There is a prominent gas-filled pouch in the upper mediastinum consistent with esophageal atresia. Gas in the stomach and bowel meaning that there must also be a fistula between the trachea and esophagus - a tracheoesophageal fistula.

Case Discussion
This case demonstrates the typical appearance of a proximal esophageal atresia with distal fistula (tracheo-oesphageal fistula).
There is also a left-sided SVC and the two together increase the risk of associated abnormalities (e.g. cardiac anomalies) as a part of VACTERL.
