Osteoid osteoma of the spine

Presentation

Nocturnal back pain relieved with aspirin.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

CT scan shows a sharply demarcated round lesion, at the junction of the pedicle and right transverse process of the second thoracic vertebrae which has a central sclerotic focus and diffuse surrounding sclerosis

Arrow indicates the position of osteoid osteoma, which are typically more common in the posterior elements. 

Case Discussion

The findings are consistent with osteoid osteoma in a male patient with nocturnal back pain.
