Presentation
Hand anomaly
Patient Data
Isolated postaxial polydactyly with solitary little finger metacarpal and proximal phalanx, but duplication of the middle and distal phalanx. Accompanying fusion abnormality between the metacarpal and proximal phalanx.
Case Discussion
The findings of the x-rays are consistent of post-axial polydactyly with fusion anomaly.
Usually, post-axial polydactyly is classified as type A (duplication at the MCPJ) or type B (rudimentary non-functioning digit). Clearly, neither are relevant here. In addition, the duplication of the phalanges appear to be within a single digit (polydactyly with accompanying syndactyly).
