Brodie abscess

Presentation

Fever, pain, swelling and tenderness at the left knee

Patient Data

Age: 7 years
Gender: Male

Patient's parents did not consent to IV contrast administration, and hence post-contrast sequences were not obtained.

Cystic metaphyseal lesion display low signal on T1 and high signal on T2/STIR images and crosses the physis to form a similar cystic lesion at the epiphysis. It is surrounded by extensive marrow edema. Associated posterior cortical destruction and subperiosteal fluid collection are noted. Adjacent popliteal lymph nodes are seen.
