Why are brainstem strokes often difficult to observed on CT?
The brainstem is often poorly visualised on CT due to beam hardening from the petrous temporal bone. This is not an issue on MRI.
What is the arterial supply to the pons?
The pontine branches are the small arterial branches of the basilar artery that supply the pons and structures adjacent to the pons.
Large high T2, low T1, avid diffusion restriction abnormality in the left hemi-pons, in keeping with an acute pontine infarction.
No haemorrhagic component.
Normal basilar artery.
