Richter hernia: incarcerated

Presentation

Marked abdominal distension and tenderness

Patient Data

Age: 1 month old
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Part of the circumference of small bowel loop is seen herniating into the left inguinal canal giving the appearance of blind loop herniation through a 9.5 mm fascial defect. There is bowel dilatation proximal to this hernia.

The patient also had bilateral hydroceles.

Case Discussion

Provisional diagnosis was Meckel's diverticulum entering hernial sac however Richter hernia was the final operative diagnosis.
