Coracoid process fracture

Presentation

H/o road traffic accident. The radiograph and CT scan showed a coracoid process fracture. Referred to check rotator cuff integrity.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Fracture of the mid part of the coracoid process with 3 mm displacement.

The symptomatic supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscle bellies with fatty infiltration (increased echogenicity) and volume loss. The infraspinatus muscle is more affected. 

The asymptomatic supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscle bellies show a normal echo pattern.

Case Discussion

Fracture of the coracoid process with the intact rotator cuff. However, there is atrophy and fatty infiltration involving supra- and infraspinatus muscle bellies.
