Post operative osteomyelitis - tibia

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Trauma to the right leg; fracture of tibia which was treated with open reduction. 2 weeks later patient developed discharge at the wound site.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

There is a non healed fracture of the distal end of tibia with cortical destruction and loss of trabeculations. There is cortical thickening on its lateral aspect.

Osteopenia is noted at the distal end of tibia and around the ankle .

No soft tissue swelling is noted.

Staph aureus is the most common causative agent
