Morning stiffness, deformity of digits.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

X-ray (both hands) findings:

  • loss of intercarpal, carpometacarpal and distal radio-ulnar joint spaces

  • ulnar deviation of MCP joints

  • extension deformity of DIP joints (Boutonierre deformity) and hitchhiker thumb deformity

Case Discussion

Case of rheumatoid arthritis (adult type) late stage of the hands, which is a seropositive inflammatory arthropathy with female preponderance. Rheumatoid factor was positive in this case. Other organs affected in rheumatoid arthritis are the lungs, skin, heart, and eyes.
