Presentation

? lateral meniscus tear

Patient Data

Age: 13
Gender: Female
mri

Discoid lateral meniscus with a complete radial tear at the junction of the anterior horn and body with 7 mm separation of the tear margins.  There is associated peripheral extrusion of the lateral meniscal body which contains some lowgrade intrasubstance signal.  An additional small inner free edge radial tear is evident within the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus.  The root attachments are preserved.

Small to moderate sized knee joint effusion.  Lowgrade quadriceps insertional tendinosis. Signal hyperintensity within the subcortical marrow underlying the medial gastrocnaemius origin at the posterior aspect of the distal femur is an incidental benign finding in a patient this age.

Case Discussion

Complete radial tear with 7 mm of separation involving the lateral meniscus at the junction of the body and anterior horn.  This has occurred on background discoid lateral meniscus.  Additional small incomplete inner free edge radial tear of the lateral meniscal posterior horn.
