Fetal lung lesion

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Primigravida undergoing an anomaly scan. No complaints. Previous scans done at 7 weeks and 13 weeks were normal.

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Normal fetal situs is seen.

A mixed solid - cystic lesion is noted in left lung . Solid part of the lesion is echogenic.

Largest cyst about 5 - 6 mm. Few tiny cysts are noted. Lesion involves mid to lower part of left lung.

Approximate size of the lesion is 28 x 25 x 14 mm.

No pleural effusion is noted.

Lesion causes mass effect on left atrium.  No cardiac shift is noted.

No blood supply is noted from aorta.

Diaphragm is intact.

No other fetal abnormality is noted.

No fetal hydrops.

No polyhydramnios.

Case Discussion

Cystic - echogenic solid  lesion is seen in fetal lung without other abnormality.

Possibility of cystic adnematoid malformation appears to be most likely.
