There is a saccular outpouching of the interatrial septum from the left atrium into the right atrium. It measures 11 mm off the midline, with a 13 mm base.

Case Discussion

A small outpouching of the interatrial septum at the fossa ovalis is common.

When the outpouching is termed "aneurysmal," however, varies according to the source with a range of 11-15 mm.

Atrial septal aneurysms have been associated patent foramen ovale and with an increased incidence of thromboembolic events.
