Presentation

Two weeks post cardiac stenting. Ongoing SOB.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Incidental note of bilateral cervical ribs. On the right, it is fusing to the first rib.

Lungs and pleural spaces are clear. Normal cardiomediastinal contour. 

Case Discussion

  • cervical ribs are not uncommon, with an incidence of ~ 1 in 200
  • supernumerary rib arising from C7
  • usually an incidental, asymptomatic finding (as in this case) but have been implicated in thoracic outlet syndrome
