"Claw" sign = enhancing rim of compressed pituitary surrounding non-enhancing cyst.

Rathke cleft cyst is a nonneoplastic cyst arising from remnants of embryonic Rathke cleft.

Top differential diagnoses:

  • craniopharyngioma

  • cystic pituitary adenoma

  • other non-neoplastic cysts

The claw sign has also been used in radiological literature with respect to Wilms tumor.
