Vertigo and sensorineural hearing loss.
Patient Data
An extra-axial right petrous apex vividly enhancing mass is present extending into the internal acoustic meatus and Meckel's cave. Features are those of a meningioma.
Case Discussion
The patient went on to have surgery.
Histology
Sections show an intensely vascular tumor composed of whorled meningothelial cells. The tumor cells demonstrate indistinct cell borders, abundant pale eosinophilic cytoplasm, oval nuclei with fine granular chromatin and focal intranuclear inclusions. No necrosis or mitoses are identified. No brain tissue is included.
DIAGNOSIS: Meningothelial meningioma, WHO Grade I.
