Gender: Female

Bilateral erosion of the lateral ends of the clavicles. The smooth tapered appearance in this case favors rheumatoid arthritis or scleroderma.

Case Discussion

The erosion or absence of the lateral ends of the clavicles may be seen in hyperparathyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma and cleidocranial dysostosis. Other causes are post-traumatic osteolysis, myeloma, metastases and osteomyelitis which are usually unilateral.
