Hepatopulmonary syndrome : patient with liver cirrhosis, portal venous shunting and bilateral dilated pulmonary arteries.
- MIP CT chest demonstrates bilateral pulmonary arterial tree extending up to the pleura.
- Coronal view of the chest shows mild irregularity of the liver surface in keeping with cirrhosis
- Axial slice of CT abdomen, the annotated contrast filled structure is markedly dilated varix, rather than loop of small bowel, as the result of portal systemic shunting.
Case Discussion
Patient presented with cyanosis and jaundice. Liver function tests were abnormal. CT chest was performed to explain the cyanosis which demonstrated dilated pulmonary arterial tree. A diagnosis of hepatopulmonary syndrome was made and the patient died 3 months later.
