Case Discussion

Histology

The sections show a moderately hypercellular tumor composed of mature ganglion cells, some of which are binucleated. These are mixed with astrocytic cells showing a mild degree of nuclear pleomorphism. The ganglion cells show strong immunostaining for chromogranin, synaptophysin and neurofilament protein (NFP). No mitotic figures, vascular endothelial cell hyperplasia or necrosis are identified. The features are of ganglioglioma.

DIAGNOSIS: Ganglioglioma (WHO Grade 2).
