Cysticercosis - musculoskeletal and brain manifestations

Presentation

Complains of 'burning' feeling right arm and leg, and headache.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

The MRI study showed small hyperintense intracranial lessons on FLAIR, some of which enhanced after gadolinium contrast agent.

Frontal radiograph both thighs showing elongated calcifications within the soft tissues. No focal osseous lesion. 

Case Discussion

This patient has neurocysticercosis. She had been diagnosed one year previously and had received treatment. The current symptoms represented a relapse. Soft tissue radiographs showed the typical 'rice grain' calcifications associated with this infection.
