Bilateral preseptal periorbital cellulitis

Presentation

Facial swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

Bilateral periorbital soft tissue swelling and fat stranding. No post septal fat stranding. The orbits have an unremarkable appearance with no mass. Extraocular muscles have a normal appearance. Limited intracranial views are unremarkable. Paranasal sinuses and imaged mastoid air cells are clear. No bony abnormality is identified.

Case Discussion

When patients present with periorbital cellulitis it is important to assess for any postseptal involvement, as when this occurs it is a much more serious condition.
