Presentation

Rapidly progressive dementia, myoclonus, ataxia.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Prominent restricted diffusion, and to a lesser degree high T2/FLAIR signal, is noted involving the basal ganglia, thalami and geographic regions of cortex. These features are characteristic of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Case Discussion

Clinically the diagnosis of f Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease was suspected, the imaging is characteristic, and CSF 14-3-3 protein was positive.
