Meniscal bucket handle tear (flipped meniscus)

Presentation

Knee pain following vigorous exercise.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

The posterior horn and body of the medial meniscus are attenuated showing diffuse intra-substance areas of high signal extending to menisco-capsular attachment and inferior articular surface (bucket-handle tear) with displacement of the torn fragment anteriorly & medially within the intercondylar notch.

Medial collateral ligament periligamentous edema is noted.

Moderate amount of knee joint effusion is noted, associated with multilocular localized synovial fluid collection in gastrocnemius/semimembranosus bursa.
