Mediastinal fibrosis - radiation induced

Case contributed by Ian Bickle

Presentation

Previous oncology patient who received mediastinal radiotherapy. Now well.

Patient Data

Age: 67
Gender: Female

Bilateral paramidline fibrosis with sharp delineation involving the upper mediastinum.

This is symmetrical in nature, vertically oriented and very well defined.

Minor left basal lung fibrosis.

Case Discussion

The appearances are classical of post radiation fibrosis.

The sharp delineation and symmetry is typical of iatrogenic fibrosis following mediastinal radiation therapy.

This would be a good fellowship film, such as for the FRCR 2B.
