Presentation
Referred for a radiograph with hand deformity.
Patient Data
There is gross deformity invoving the index and middle fingers of the left hand. The phalanges of these respective fingers are enlarged and expanded. There is no associated syndactyly. The thumb, ring and little finger are morphologically normal. The metacarpals and carpal bones appear normal.
Repeat left hand radiograph at 15 months old. There has been interval growth and further enlargement of the grossly enlarged fingers.
Case Discussion
Macrodactyly happens more often in the hands than feet as our case above. It may coexist with syndactyly.
Treatment option is dependent on multiple factors including whether the condition is static or progressive, the severity of the condition or other associated conditions.
