Presentation
Nausea and vomiting. Bowels not open. Abdominal distension.
Patient Data
Peripheral calcification of the gallbladder.
Dilated small bowel and right colon.
CT demonstrates a stricturing proximal transverse colon tumor causing large bowel obstruction and confirms the presence of a porcelain gallbladder.
Case Discussion
This patient presented with signs and symptoms of bowel obstruction and was demonstrated to have an obstructing transverse colon tumor with an incompetent ileocecal valve at CT.
The imaging findings are pathognomonic of a porcelain GB, an incidental finding in this case.
- porcelain GB is often an incidental finding. It has previously been associated with an increased risk of cancer, but more recent studies have demonstrated lower incidences, and follow-up is not indicated1
