Presentation

Acute on chronic shortness of breath. Respiratory clinic attender.

Patient Data

Age: 70
Gender: Female
x-ray

Extensive reticular change throughout both lungs both pronounced in the mid and lower zones.

Honeycomb change is apparent most pronounced at the right base.

'Shaggy' outline to the cardiac border.

 

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates severe end-stage pulmonary fibrosis. 

The term 'shaggy heart' has been used to refer to the instinct outline to the heart border due to the extensive adjacent lung fibrosis.
