Segond and reverse Segond fractures

Presentation

A young female presenting with knee pain few days after motor vehicle accident (MVA).

Patient Data

Age: 20-30 years
Gender: Female

CT demonstrates avulsion fractures with small bony fragments at both the lateral and medial tibial plateaus.

Case Discussion

Segond fracture is a type of avulsion fracture of the lateral tibial plateau and the reverse Segond fracture is an avulsion of the deep capsular component of the medial collateral ligament (MCL).

This case illustrates the very uncommon combination of Segond and reverse Segond fractures.
