Radial head fracture: Mason type II

Presentation

Awkward landing with weight transferred onto outstretched arm while playing badminton. Pain followed by restriction of terminal extension at the elbow.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Mildly displaced (4 mm fracture gap) articular margin fracture of head of radius. Mildly displaced (2 mm) fracture of coronoid process of ulna. No significant radial shaft impaction. Preserved radiocapitellar and ulnotrochlear articulation. No supracondylar humeral fracture. 

Case Discussion

Mason classification is popularly used for classifying radial head fractures. CT helps to identify site, number, morphology, involvement of articular margin, fracture gap and associated bony fractures.
