Otogenic meningoencephalocele

There is a focus of encephalomalacia in the left temporal lobe with ex vacuo dilatation of the temporal horn. There is protrusion of the underlying meninges and brain parenchyma (best seen in the sagittal plane) through a defect in the temporal bone in the middle ear and mastoid. This suggests a meningoencephalocele.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates secondary meningoencephalic herniation and temporal lobe enccephalomalacia as a result of purulent otitis media complicated by bone erosion.
