Stranding and inflammation surrounding a fat-density structure adjacent to the sigmoid colon in the left lower quadrant. No other acute findings.

Case Discussion

Classic case of epiploic appendagitis. Inflammatory stranding of a fat-density structure projecting from the sigmoid colon, which is a typical location. The central dot sign can be appreciated on the sagittal images. This can be differentiated from acute diverticulitis by the absence of diverticula in this location and classic appearance of central fat attenuation.
